Curriculum Topics

Day 1: Ideal Living Space

  • Types of cage birds
  • Correct cage size and selection according to species
  • Perch materials (plastic/natural) and correct diameter selection
  • Optimal cage placement in the house (temperature, light)
  • Safe and healthy materials

Day 2: Nutrition Principles and Balanced Feeding Rules

  • Basic Nutrition
  • Types of food (seeds, pellet foods)
  • Importance of vegetables and fruits in diet
  • Gravel, cuttlefish bone, and vitamin/mineral supplements
  • Foods that are toxic to birds

Day 3: Routine Care and Hygiene

  • Feather care, bathing, and beak/claw checks
  • Molting (seasonal/disease) and feather care
  • Bathing methods and frequency
  • Claw and beak control
  • Disinfection of cages and equipment

Day 4: Most Common Diseases in Cage Birds (I)

  • Early signs of illness (lethargy, puffed feathers, changes in feces)
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Digestive problems
  • Parasitic diseases
  • Feather and skin problems

Day 5: Most Common Diseases (II)

  • Feather plucking and behavioral disorders in cage birds
  • Egg binding (emergency intervention)
  • Feather plucking (behavioral and medical reasons)
  • Foot and joint problems
  • Emergency veterinary interventions required for cage birds

Training Outcomes

  • Participants will be able to create an enriched living space suitable for the physiological and psychological needs of their bird.
  • They will go beyond a single food diet and develop a balanced and healthy diet.
  • They will be able to recognize the first signs of illness and stress in their birds and take preventive measures.
  • They will understand the root causes of behavioral issues like feather plucking and develop the right approaches.
  • If participants attend 79% or more of the training, they will receive a university-approved participation certificate.
