Curriculum Topics

Day 1: Bee Colony and Equipment
  • Bee biology: queen, worker, and drone roles and life cycles in the colony.
  • Basic hive types and components.
  • Essential beekeeping equipment (smoker, mask, gloves) and proper usage.
  • Acquiring a new bee colony and hive setup.
Day 2: Colony Management and Year-round Care
  • Seasonal cycle: spring colony development and winter preparation.
  • Bee feeding: syrup and pollen cake – when and why to give.
  • Reading the hive correctly: frame inspection and colony strength assessment.
  • Swarming and management.
Day 3: Diseases and Pests
  • Main threat: Varroa parasite and control methods (organic and chemical).
  • Common bee diseases: American & European foulbrood, Nosema.
  • Pest control: wax moth, bee louse, etc.
  • Hive hygiene and cleaning protocols.
Day 4: Honey Harvest and Other Products
  • Maturation of honey, harvest timing, and correct extraction methods.
  • Collection and storage techniques for pollen, propolis, and royal jelly.
  • Maintaining honey quality and preventing adulteration.
  • Packing and storage of honey and other products.
Day 5: Queen Rearing and Colony Multiplication
  • Impact of quality queen on colony productivity and health.
  • Artificial swarming (splitting) to increase colony numbers.
  • Mobile beekeeping: selecting proper sites and transportation rules for higher honey yield.
  • Profitability in beekeeping and marketing products.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understands basic bee anatomy and colony structure.
  • Manages hives effectively and profitably.
  • Applies correct feeding techniques in beekeeping.
  • Knows methods to combat Varroa and common bee diseases.
  • Harvests honey, pollen, and propolis using correct techniques.
  • Expands colony healthily and prepares it for winter.

Training Notes

  • Instructor can adjust content according to participant profiles.
  • Participants with 79% or higher attendance will receive a university-approved participation certificate.

The training is open to institutional collaborations (package for institution/company legal entities), and individual applications are not accepted. The training content can be reorganized according to your institutional participant profile and needs. As a result of mutual discussions, the scope and method of the training (face-to-face / online) are determined and the relevant processes are completed. In case of mutual agreement, the date, time, and location of the training are planned in line with the availability of your institution’s participants and our instructors.
