Why Should Cooperative Education Be Taken?
In Turkey, the cooperative strategy has been defined as achieving an effective, reliable, efficient, and sustainable economic structure. The biggest obstacle to this strategy is the lack of cooperative education. From this perspective, the objectives of cooperative education can be listed as follows:
- To train conscious and informed cooperators
- To ensure cooperatives understand their financial structures
- To ensure cooperatives are managed in a healthy and effective manner
- To enable cooperative members to create a sustainable economic system
- To ensure active participation of cooperative members
- To show cooperative members how they can contribute to achieving the cooperative’s goals
- To provide information on establishing, managing, and growing cooperatives
- To help cooperative members understand their social responsibilities
- To make members’ decision-making processes more informed
What Are the Benefits of Cooperative Education?
Cooperative education increases members’ awareness and makes them more conscious. Through this education, members gain knowledge about how a cooperative is established, managed, and maintained, allowing them to better defend their rights in case of disputes. Members also learn and stay updated on all laws, regulations, and amendments related to cooperatives. Additionally, cooperative education offers members opportunities to work in different areas within the cooperative. Members can take on roles such as auditor, administrator, or manager. Cooperative members are required to complete cooperative education within 9 months after being elected.
