Prerequisites

• Interest in the care and feeding of cage birds
• There are no prerequisites for joining this program.

Curriculum Topics

Day 1: Ideal Living Environment

• Types of cage birds
• Cage sizes and selecting the right cage for each species
• Perch materials (plastic/natural) and correct diameter selection
• Optimal placement of the cage indoors (temperature, light)
• Safe and healthy materials

Day 2: Nutrition Principles and Balanced Feeding

• Basic Nutrition
• Feed types (seeds, pellet feed)
• The importance of vegetables and fruits in diet
• Sand, cuttlebone, and vitamin/mineral supplements
• Foods and nutrients toxic to birds

Day 3: Routine Care and Hygiene

• Feather care, bathing, and nail/beak checks
• Molting (seasonal/illness) and feather care
• Bathing methods and frequency
• Nail and beak inspection
• Disinfection of cages and equipment

Day 4: Most Common Diseases in Cage Birds (I)

• Early signs of illness (lethargy, fluffed feathers, changes in droppings)
• Respiratory diseases
• Digestive system problems
• Parasitic diseases
• Feather and skin problems

Day 5: Most Common Diseases (II)

• Feather plucking and behavioral disorders in cage birds
• Egg binding (emergency intervention)
• Feather plucking issues (behavioral and medical causes)
• Foot and joint problems
• Situations requiring urgent veterinary intervention

Learning Outcomes

• Set up an enriched living environment that meets your bird's physiological and psychological needs.
• Create a balanced and healthy diet beyond a single type of feed.
• Recognize early signs of illness and stress in birds and take preventive measures.
• Understand behavioral problems like feather plucking and apply correct approaches.
• Participants who attend at least 79% of the training will receive a university-approved participation certificate.

The training is open to institutional collaborations (package for institution/company legal entities), and individual applications are not accepted. The training content can be reorganized according to your institutional participant profile and needs. As a result of mutual discussions, the scope and method of the training (face-to-face / online) are determined and the relevant processes are completed. In case of mutual agreement, the date, time, and location of the training are planned in line with the availability of your institution’s participants and our instructors.
